This product was produced in the city of Toyohashi, Aichi, a place that's been famous for producing aprons for many years.
The traditional Japanese work outfit that is the 'maekake' is an apron that's worn around the waists of workers in many a store, from liqour stores to rice shops. Japanese aprons are said to have origins dating back to the 15th century. They gained the name from how they're worn from the front ('mae'), where they hang down ('kake'), and they're valued for their practical uses in protecting workers' waists, preventing injuries and tearing.
They found their current design in the Edo period, and the practice of leaving the store's name undyed began in the Meiji period, leading to its use as both a uniform and an advertising tool. In the city of Toyohashi, a big production site of Japanese aprons, the explosive post war economic boom in Japan between 1950-70 brought about a sudden surge in apron production. This lead to store staff in all variety of workplaces, from wine cellars to rice shops, miso shops, soy sauce shops, fertiliser shops, food manufacturers and more, to one after the other start creating aprons with their business' name on the front, with this practice eventually spreading throughout the country.
